Convert HEIC to PNG Online Free

iPhone photo won't open on your PC? AllConvert converts HEIC to lossless PNG instantly, right in your browser. No upload, no account — your photos stay on your device.

Why convert HEIC to PNG?

HEIC is the format iPhones use by default, but Windows, Android and most editing tools either can't open it or need extra codecs. PNG opens everywhere, and because it is lossless, it preserves every pixel the decoder produces — making it the best choice when you plan to edit the photo afterwards, need transparency support in later editing steps, or simply want maximum quality.

What happens during the conversion?

The first HEIC conversion downloads a small open-source decoder library (about 1 MB) to your browser; after that, conversions are instant. Your photo itself is decoded and re-encoded entirely on your device — it is never uploaded to any server, which matters for personal photos.

PNG or JPG for iPhone photos?

PNG gives maximum quality but larger files. If you mainly want to share or email the photo, HEIC to JPG produces much smaller files that still look great. For the web, HEIC to WEBP is smaller still.

How to convert

  1. Drop your HEIC file into the converter box at the top of this page, or click the box to browse for it.
  2. The conversion to PNG starts right away and runs entirely on your device.
  3. Click the download button that appears to save your PNG.

Your photo stays on your device the whole time — nothing is uploaded and there's no app to install. Works the same on iPhone, Android, and desktop browsers.

The technical difference between HEIC and PNG

iPhones save HEIC using HEVC (H.265) intra-frame compression — the same codec technology used for video keyframes, just applied to a single still image. That's why a HEIC photo runs roughly half the file size of an equivalent-quality JPG. It's also why decoding one needs licensed codec support that Windows, most Android apps, and older editing software don't ship with by default. PNG works the opposite way: no prediction tricks, just lossless DEFLATE compression on the raw pixel grid. You trade size for compatibility — the PNG will be several times larger than the source HEIC, but it opens everywhere without a special decoder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open an iPhone HEIC photo on Windows?
Convert it to PNG with AllConvert — drop the .heic file into the converter on this page and it converts to PNG automatically. The result opens in any program on Windows, Mac, or Android.

Is HEIC to PNG conversion lossless?
PNG itself is lossless, so every pixel the HEIC decoder produces is preserved exactly. That makes PNG the best target format if you plan to edit the photo afterward.

Are my photos uploaded during conversion?
No. The HEIC decoder runs in your browser via JavaScript, so your photos never leave your device — worth knowing if the pictures are private.
